Pressed Flower FAQs

And if you still have questions, send me a note!

Can you press all flowers?

There are some flowers that don't respond well to the pressing process so I cannot guarantee each and every flower will make it in the final frame. Chrysthaniums and thick succulents are tricky so may not be in your frame. I pick the best flowers to present from the pressing process.

A lot of flowers I deconstruct and this takes time. A more varied bouquet will create a more varied piece of art. I welcome unique bouquets with everlasting flowers and wildflowers. If you have an all white bouquet I may not take that commission if I feel I cannot do it justice. I prefer whites to have greenery for contrast.

Please bear in mind the condition of the bouquet when I receive it also affects the pressing process. The fresher the better!

Please message me so we can discuss your bouquet in more detail and I can also give suggestions on what flowers press well.

Will my flowers fade?

Please expect some fading. Some flowers lose colour more than others and change over time as they lose their moisture content. The best way to retain colour is to press your flowers as quickly as possible, hence, for commissions I will need the flowers within 4 days. I may colour enhance your petals at my own discretion and I use UV protective spray.

Flower pressing retains the shape and form. It also creates a one off meaningful piece of art and often the fading of the flowers over time creates a very subtle vintage aesthetic.

Like all artforms, please keep your frame out of direct sunlight.

Also be aware that when they are pressed flowers can often change colours. White flowers press ivory or quite yellow, red flowers often turn a deeper shade of red or even purple. This is the beauty of dealing with nature.

Please note loose fragments of pollen/flower may become loose over time or during shipping. Change in temperature or environment can contribute to this although it should be minimal.

Please keep your frames in a place away from sunlight and moisture.

Can't I just press my own flowers?

I encourage everyone to press flowers, it's a therapeutic craft. However when it comes to special occasion flowers please have faith that I have a degree in Fine Art and my knowledge of the craft will guarantee a beautiful piece of art. Flower pressing can be tricky and they can go mouldy especially those bridal bouquets which have been out of water most of the day. Carefully deconstructing a bouquet can take hours and something you may not wish to do on your first couple of days of being a newlywed.

I have an intuition for balance and colour and offer a unique, modern aesthetic to this traditional art form.

How long will my commission take?

Flower pressing is a lengthy process but it serves as a beautiful momento of your day.

Approximately 12 weeks depending on the bouquet as some flowers are quicker to press than others.

Currently due to covid frames are delayed with shipping. This is out of my control so please note the commissions can take longer at present.

Do you take commissions aside from weddings?

Yes I take commissions for many special occasion flowers. Memorial, baby shower or simply art for your home please feel free to drop me a message and we can chat.

What if my wedding has already been?

You can get your bouquet made again by your florist and I can recreate this into art. As the flowers will be fresh they will press beautifully and bring back those joyous memories.

Do you take commissions across New Zealand?

Yes I do, however the onus is on the customer to send the bouquet via courier within 4 days so the flowers will be fresh as possible to press.

I will courier the finished artwork in the frame.

If you are Wellington based you can drop off. I'm also open to travel in the greater Wellington region for a small fee to collect. Contact me about my travel fees.

Tell me about your paintings?

Available paintings will be on my website. As well as one off frames and artworks. Get in touch if you have a painting commission. Spring/Summer is busier with bridal bouquets so I try to create paintings when wedding season slows down.

Do you offer gift cards?

Absolutely! These make the perfect wedding gift. It's an amazing gift from the bridal party. Email me to purchase.
